草山行館建於1920年代，最初是台灣糖業株式會社的招待所，具有典型的日式建築風格。
行館內部的空間規劃，如川堂、大廳、會客室、書房、臥室等，都保留了當時的日式格局。
國民政府遷台後，蔣中正總統曾在此居住，使草山行館成為台灣第一座總統官邸。
2007年時行館曾不幸遭遇火災，後經台北市政府修復重建後重現昔日風采，行館內陳列著蔣中正總統使用過的文物，讓遊客得以一窺歷史。
